Roy graduated from Liverpool John Moores university in 2004 with a ba (hons) in Fine Art. one of his paintings won the swiss life prize and now hangs in their liverpool headquarters. In 2004 he was awarded the Norman Moores painting and drawing fellowship. He was commissioned by John Moores University to produce a painting that now hangs in the Aldham Robarts building and has exhibited at several prestigious venues on merseyside. most recently, one of his paintings, liver buildings at sunset, has been selected by the capital of culture company to feature on merchandise in the run-up to 2008.

He has the following to say about his work -

"Many of my paintings are based on Liverpool, and its people. Liverpool is a city undergoing a radical transition and I am keen to capture some of the older parts before they are lost forever. Other work that interests me as a painter is that of narrative, paintings that that go beyond the aesthetic and which tell a story, or provide a comment about the world we live in."
