Liverpool born Jason Jones graduated with a combined honours degree in psychology and fine art at Liverpool Hope University College and was later employed as an artist in residence by their fine arts department up until september 1999. He is now employed as their fine art and design senior assistant as well as manager of the universitys cornerstone gallery.
Jasons powerful and dramatic abstract paintings have been influenced by the work of the abstract expressionists and contain references to real, raw emotion. His background in psychology informs his work, which often strives to express visually the internal workings of the human mind.
The artist talks about the holding the moment series;
"The nature of a "moment" is impermanent and these compositions have chosen to capture an essence of what a moments feeling, sensation and importance can mean ... the world we live in constantly reminds us to remember moments. From lyrics to prose to film, it is constantly referred to and it is something we all cherish. The memory, the feeling, the pleasure, the sadness, it is this experience of life and the emotion derived that is my inspiration."
