James Lavott is relatively new to the art world having changed from a career in IT to concentrate on art. He works from his studio based in the North West England and has already held exhibitions at local art venues. Notwithstanding the focus of recent works, he is keen to remain versatile not wishing to be restricted creatively by one particular style. He has proved this versatility by producing works in many styles such as surreal, abstract, semi abstract figurative.

His latest works are a semi figurative style inspired by the hustle and bustle that usually accompanies dining out at Wine Bars or Restaurants. Dining out is more often than not a very pleasurable experience that consists of a myriad of external influences firing our senses, the clatter and chink of glasses, crockery and cutlery, the smells sights and sounds. Our attention may be focused intently on a partner, in which case the ambience affects us subliminally, or specific observations can focus our attentions more directly. The painting technique used is constructed from a number of sketches and ideas that are transferred to the canvas. Oil paints are layered using a pallet knife, and more often than not the removed to reveal sub layers, which develops the vibrancy, movement and tonal overlays.? Specific areas of focus are developed using brush work which, in contrast to the knife application, helps create the more focused experiences.

Regardless of the subject matter, the artwork remains fluid and presents things as they are experienced rather than viewed.
