Susan Finch was born in Scotland but has lived in Liverpool since she was seven. In 1980 she completed a Foundation Course at Liverpool Polytechnic where she was taught by the artists Maurice Cockrill and Nicholas Horsfield. It was here that her interest in life drawing and the figure in Art began and it remains a powerful and resonant influence on her work today. She went on to study Fine Art at Manchester Polytechnic and as a student, she exhibited at the Royal Academy and Manchester Academy of Art. Since then, Susan has worked on individual commissions and has had solo exhibitions at the Greenbank Restaurant and Blackburne House. She is also a regular exhibitor at the Liverpool Academy of Arts.
Her pictures reflect her strong attachment to Liverpool, its landscape, its people and their rich and varied culture. Friends, family and unknown figures from the distant past commune with each other within the mysterious worlds she creates. John Lennon and Paul McCartney enact a cosmic conversation across the red and gold space of the
canvas; like a Greek chorus, the older generation shout their disapproval from the wings!
Within a painting, anything is possible...
