Paul is a designer who has recently returned to his roots in fine art. His work takes elements of pop culture, advertising and satire and combines them to create bold, contemporary images. The artist describes his inspirations:
whilst studying art at school, I was introduced to the French impressionist movement which I drew parallels with the then current punk and new wave movement. I saw them fighting similar establishments 100 years apart. for Monet I saw The Sex Pistols, renoir - The Clash, Degas - The Damned, Manet - The Stranglers, Sisley - The Buzzcocks, Pissarro - The Blockheads etc etc. I have taken these reference points and all the mavericks in popular culture who came inbetween and realised that if you do not understand the past, you are condemned to repeat it. So I am starting to attempt to incorporate all of my previous interests and inspirations into a big artistic melting pot.
