Hazel completed an art degree at Liverpool John Moores University as a mature student, graduating in 1995. Since then she has worked in a variety of media, including watercolour and metal work, but has recently discovered a love of collage, a medium she says allow her to play with ideas:
"Collage as a medium caught my interest, enabling me to use colour, shape and my imagination, and to discover what the three things want to do together which is often something unexpected. I get a lot of inspiration from trees and these are often my subject matter. I live round the corner from Sefton Park where I see trees of all kinds in abundance and am also a keen walker."
