Joseph and Daniel Forrest are two brothers from Wallasey who specialise in classical art styles and techniques. Between 2004 and 2007 they both trained hands-on with The Merseyside Forum for Painting, Sculpture and Allied Crafts in a wide range of classical skills and techniques under the guidance of Liverpool artist Terry McGunigle. There they tried their hands at a myriad of different crafts and skills including: oil and fresco painting, clay modelling & plaster casting, fibreglass & cold-cast imitation bronze sculpture, stone carving, architectural embellishment, lettering, gold leaf & gilding as well as stone cleaning and restoration work. Terry earned an MA from Florence University and trained for many years in Carrara, Italy, and both Joseph and Daniel feel privileged to have been taught such skills.
"Many of the skills and techniques we learnt are becoming increasingly rare and even being lost altogether due to a lack of traditional apprenticeships and authentic crafts people. We did not go to university but instead learnt a whole range of skills that we never could have if we had followed the traditional academic route."
