"My love for drawing began as a child, with my father buying my first sketchbook, and ever since I have been completely captivated by it. I swiftly shifted from unselfconscious drawing to slavish copying for a time, before finally returning to my childhood's inner expression, while still incorporating drawing from observation. Creating art, to me, is about inner expression, of emotions, of spirit, of feelings, through drawing & painting."
"I begin a picture immediately, using my intuition as a guide, preferring to let things develop as I work, only sometimes referring to a sketch. I find thinking of and planning a definite idea clouds my expression and spoils spontaneity which I feel is crucial in creativity. I am detached from everything except the drawing or painting, losing myself completely within it; exciting things then emerge. I choose materials that enable immediacy of markmaking and intensity of colour and tone. Ideas & themes emerge in my work by chance, subconsciously, encouraged by the happy accident."
"I am currently creating work in which I am further exploring and developing esoteric themes with profound subjects, such as birth, love & death. I am now experimenting more with alkyds painting with them straight from the tube,?using?them in conjunction with oil pastel. Contrasting and comparing things fascinates me intensely. My painting, as well as expressing my inner emotional?voice, puts?everything into new perspective. I often experience inward isolation and separation from the?outside world, within?my world, intensified by insecure feelings remaining with me from childhood, which emerge strongly in my work. Human feelings fascinate me; I am interested in how we are attached to possessions, in our need to belong, the way experiences are etched into our being and how they remain with us and change us."
