Childhood... fields of grass, softly swaying in a warm summer breeze, the babbling brook flowing through a small woodland copse. With the smell of Grandma's freshly baked scones wafting out across from her rose cottage garden. All nestling under clear blue skies.
Yeah, well that wasn't my childhood.
I grew up in 1950's Liverpool, or to be more precise Everton Valley. (one of the Lost Tribe). Hard granite cobblestone streets, back to back terraces with slate grey roofs and all under a (usually) rain sodden sky. But it was great. We mightn't have had much, but we did have loads of fun, and so much freedom that kids today just wouldn't beleive.
So that's what I've tried to capture in my paintings, and to hopefully stir a few happy memories. The kids are based in characters both real and imaginary and are drawn (pun intended) from my book, "The Adventures of Billy "r" Kid" published by Bluecoat Press. I suppose I could paint serious pictures. But where's the fun in that?
